Chinese tourists discouraged from travelling to the U.S.

The arrest of Huawei’s chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou
could have lingering effects on Chinese tourism in the US and its
allies.

China’s State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration
Commission (SASAC) has warned business travellers to avoid trips to
the U.S. and be extra cautious with devices if travel is
necessary.

The warning extends to other member countries in the Five Eyes
intelligence alliance, which includes New Zealand, Australia,
Canada, United Kingdom, and the United States.

SASAC has demanded employees to verify its files with their
company, and only carry files on secure USB drives.

The tension is felt on both sides of the conflict, however, with
two Canadian citizens being detained in China. The Canadian
government has since advised travellers to “exercise a high
degree of caution in China due to the risk of arbitrary enforcement
of local laws.”
